Norfolk State University's James Wise Gallery is presenting 'The USA's 250th Anniversary: Reflecting the Black Experience' through November 2, 2026.
Timed to the nation's 250th anniversary, the exhibition features artists from across the country examining Black American history, culture, resilience, and contributions — from the founding era to the present.
The works explore perseverance, achievement, cultural expression, and social change, inviting viewers to consider how the founding ideals of freedom and equality have been experienced, challenged, and expanded by generations of Black Americans.
As Gallery Manager Victoria Ann Jensen puts it, the show reflects 'what communities are thinking about today' and testifies to 'the important role the arts continue to play in shaping our future.'
Closes November 2 — if you're in the Virginia/Hampton Roads area, don't miss it.
