AfriKin Foundation opens the 12th edition of AfriKin Art Fair on November 29, 2026 with GRIOT: Urgent Storytelling for Our Times, running through December 6 at Maison AfriKin, 1600 NE 126th Street in North Miami, during Miami Art Week and alongside Art Basel Miami Beach.

Curated by Joseph L. Underwood, Ph.D., GRIOT gathers about 70 artists of African heritage from more than 35 countries and territories, working in painting, sculpture, photography, textile and other media. The title honors the West African griots who kept the record of their communities.

At the opening Vernissage on Nov 29, the all-white affair, AfriKin presents its 2026 Award of Excellence to actress and collector CCH Pounder, whose collection holds more than 500 works by Caribbean, African and diaspora artists. In 1992 she and her late husband Boubacar Kone founded the Musee Boribana in Dakar, the first privately owned contemporary art museum in Senegal.

After the Vernissage, GRIOT is open daily 11 AM to 9 PM, November 30 to December 6, with performances, workshops and the CHANGA: Griot Moves talks on December 3. Ticket prices rose November 1, so book now if Miami Art Week is on your calendar. Florida is in COZART's priority region, and this is its Black art anchor that week.
